It deserved all the nominations and accolades received and despite the controversies, the movie has a heart.
Based on the memoirs of Jordan Belfort which provides a peek at Wall Street's greediness and soulless.
Movie proves that no crime is left unpunished.
I must say that this is Leo's best role yet but still Matthew's gonna win in the lead actor race. I think he needs to take more risque roles that will push him to bring out his acting abilities (emotional and physical) to the fullest potential. The method of acting and roles are becoming monotonous and same (Departed, Aviator, etc).
He needs to leave his Di Caprio image just like Hoffman, McConaughey, Daniel Lewis, etc.
I disagree about the "becoming monotonous and the same". If you watch ALL the movies that give him recognitions, they are all entirely of different storylines; and he did great giving justice to the characters he portrayed. Please state why you have thought about "monotonous". Therr must be some justifications.
ReplyDeleteWhy did you also think that he has not brought out his abilities to their"fullest potential"? What is full potential in your terms? No one has commented but you that Leo has to move away from the Leonardo DiCaprio image. What roles are they that will bring out some difference? What is that current Leo image? Expound please. While he is yet to accept an Oscar, Leo is already a winner to people who understand his acting, and his roles.
Why did you also think that Matthew McConaughey will win the Oscars? Have you seen the Dallas Buyers Club? If you have, please tell us what you think of his acting. I think that age also contributes to the mastery of any craft. If Leo has not left his Leo image yet, it is probably because it is the image that best suits him at the moment.
I am afraid that your opinion here was based on limited exposure to films of DiCaprio and some hearsay.
Ooopss... I did not mean to burst your bubbles. It's just my opinion based on his films - I have watched 13 out of 35? his greatest films. I think that sounds fair to give an opinion.
ReplyDeleteDon't get me wrong I love the guy really but personally, it's the way he executes and his physicality, they are just the same old Leo. It's like watching this film, brought me back to J.Edgar, Revolutionary Road, The Aviator, The Departed, Django Unchained....
Yes I have watched DBC and Matthew's role is his best yet (he did great also in TWOWS). He took all acting awards this year and if those are not good indications, I don't know what else.
Here is what I thought of DBC
