American Beauty (1999)

Grabbed from Wikipedia
"Lester Burnham: I figured you guys might be able to give me some pointers. I need to shape up. Fast.
Jim Olmeyer: Are you just looking to lose weight, or do you want increased strength and flexibility as well?
Lester Burnham: I want to look good naked!"

The masks we wear and the lies we live.

First time I watched this film when I was in 3rd year college, it did not make any sense to me.  Although was happy to see that it had a gay subcontext.

But now I can relate to most of the subplots and agree that it is a very deserving film to be Oscars 1999 Best Picture and grabbing other 4 awards including Sam Mendes (Directing) and Alan Ball (Screenplay).

A story about a middle aged man finding himself in a crossroad and self crisis which affects his family and other people surrounding them.

Written by Alan Ball whom I super love, the man behind Six Feet Under and True Blood, expect that comedy is as dark as chocolate and as twisted as a pretzel (or pilipit for that matter).
