I don't understand why Filipinos are getting critical on 2013's MMFF. This is MMFF for goodness sake, we all know that 80% of these films are worthless crappy movies (at least for me) but somehow successful in giving comedic or entertainment relief during the Christmas season to masses.
I think it was never part of MMFF's mission or vision to give quality films, that's the main reason why you have Cinemalaya that provides an Oscar worthy film so let's not waste our energy demanding explanation from producers.
For this year, we have watched 3 out of 8 flicks.
Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy - love your own as they say. Main reason we watched this film is of course Vice Ganda. Quality - meh!
Kimmy Dora: Ang Kiyemeng Prequel - While it did not match its predecessors, I think Chris Martinez has made an effort to have it presentable to audiences. However, pop culture humor is not a Filipino thing, we are so engrossed of toilet humor. Quality - below average.
Boy Golden - Unexpectedly, this was one I would say is worthy of your money. I just cannot get over with the question, how many grams of foundation were slapped on Estregan's face. Quality - average.
Somewhere in my mind, I have longed to see an above average or excellent film being part of this festival with the likes of Aishite Masu, Crying Ladies, Baler, Muro Ami, Jose Rizal, Imortal, Karnal, Ganito Kami Noon Paano Kayo Ngayon, and Himala.
Who knows? Maybe next year...
