I Love You. Thank You. (2015)

This film is a rare feat and truly deserving of your money.

It is a light but heart wrenching stories of 4 individuals dancing to the tune of Megastar's "Mahal Kita, Mahal Mo Siya, Mahal Niya Ay Iba". With the exception of Joross, all casts are newbies but delivered believable performances. Well executed cinematography.

Humors are always present with these kind of films, so not to worry - there are enough lines to satisfy you.

One challenge I have is, to pinpoint the identity of the film - I know that it is a love story but I felt it left me a whole bunch of questions rather than resolutions and character redemptions.

For a two hour film, the numerous subplots are too much.

It was shot in 3 different locations which is great but then I have to ask myself, is it really necessary?

Not an expert but editing can be improved by focusing on a particular individual in a particular arc.

It may sound that I am unsatisfied but it's the opposite and hoping that there will be more outputs such as this to be featured.

Kudos to all for a job greatly done.

Hong Kong (2014)

It's been 2 weeks since my recent stint in HK.  Of course another work-related travel which is generally speaking good but this time around, it was a painful experience not because of work but due to me not feeling well.

I was never fascinated with Hong Kong although I have been in this place 4 times including this trip.  I know that it is a fashion heaven but besides that, I have a lot of issues being in that place which I won't be able to write in this page as I don't want to be tagged as racist although we are all a little racists from time to time.

It was only a 2-night business trip.  I have with me my co-project manager from my previous employer.  He's cute and yummy Chinese guy (from Shanghai) but straight and talkative, hahahahahaha!  Nevertheless, he's more than ok.  My only regret is that I should've joined him in the pool but fuck my chills and fever.  Ugh!

In terms of objective, I think we have completed what we came for but my God, the in-between times were excruciatingly painful.  I had my medicines but I don't understand why they didn't work longer than expected.

Met some HK colleagues and had dinner with my lovely boss!  All good!

I wasn't myself because of my condition, the money I withdrew from BPI was not enough to pay the bills.  The card didn't work overseas and when I tried to cash advanced from my credit card, I cannot remember the PIN (well I don't recall activating any PIN).

It was difficult and the rebooking of flight made it more unbearable.  A called PAL PH for flight rebooking and he waited for almost an hour and nobody responded!  Then he called the US hotline -

Agent: There will be a fee-nal-ti
A:  Sorry what?
Agent: A fee-nal-ti
A:  Can you spell it for me?
Agent: P-E-N-A-L
A:  Ahhh penalty.  Puwede ba magtagalog na lang tayo?

Eventually my flight was rebooked via Canada phoneline.

But wait there's more - I have mentioned that I don't have enough money so I asked the taxi drivers if they accept credit cards, too bad they don't.  I did some charades and obviously they had their fair share of it as well, "charaded" me to ask the hotel to give me a cash by charging my credit card.

The trip was full of excitement - I bet it would be more exciting if I joined China man in the pool.

Event: X-Men Days Of Future Past Southeast Asia Premiere

This event is indeed one-in-a-lifetime experience.  Never kaming naging lucky sa mga raffles and promos, even the puchu-puchu raffles.  OA much but I think this was a gift for being a loyal X-Men fan over the years.
Autographs Peter and Fan

Let me help you understand bakit ganito ako kasupport sa X-Men, during elementary years - it was a great support for someone na nabubully, so in some sort - it has been a refuge and I can associate with this band of misfits.

So going back sa event na ito, from the inception of the film - super subaybay na talaga ako.  I was glad to know that Matthew Vaughn was chosen to direct but felt to leave the directorial seat and chose to be one of the writers, and was more happy that Bryan Singer will direct the film.  There are a lot of haters out there (not because of the scandal and being gay) but they thought that Singer was not the right man for the X-Men.  I felt different, personally - he has a vision may not be truthful to comics but the fact he understands these mutants is alright for me.

Anyway, as the momentum progresses from actors to characters to sentinels, really became hopeful this will be the X-Men film, I've hoped it would be.  Singer better not f*ck this up.

As the screening gets closer and closer, I learned that they are planning to have premiere nights in different parts of the world.  For Asia, they have chosen Singapore.

PH Delegation
Super search ako sa internet at super like ako ng mga Fox related sites sa FB.  Voila!!! May promo to watch the advance screening and a chance to meet some of the characters.

Ok fine - what I need to do is to secure tickets for the opening, if may advance screening e di better na makakuha din.  While browsing FB, I saw Ayala Cinemas na may promo - but a ticket and chance to win to attend the SG premiere.

Paguwing paguwi wala pang palitan ng damit, bumili na ako ng 4 tickets so 2 chances of winning.  Not expecting anything pero I asked A "ano kaya manalo tayo ano?" pero "hindi yan".

Friday morning, 3 days after I bought the tickets - nag ring ang mobile

Me: Hello - good morning?
Caller: May I speak with A?
Me: Ay iba na number niya eto na....
Caller: Ah ok kasi ito binigay niya...
Me: Yeah nagpalit na siya, may I know who's this?
Caller: This is B calling from Ayala Cinemas
Me: Sa isip isip ko OMG OMG - uhmmm is this regarding sa X-Men promo?
Caller: Yes
Me: Nanalo ba kami?
Caller: Yes
Talon ako ng talon and tili ng tili.

Di pa rin ako makapaniwala, ni hindi ko din ito pinangarap and I know mababaw lang naman pero still.

Joey Mead-King
Fast forward to the event itself - brunch na sobrang small serving lang kinain ko during that day. Nagstart ng dumating ang mga local guests around 6pm, one of them was Joey Mead a Filipina celebrity/VJ/Model.  Wuw rubbing elbows :)

Hahahahahahaa...

Then, inannounce si Peter Dinklage and Fan Bingbing.

Sumabog ngalangala ko kakasigaw and I was lucky enough na makapagslefie with Peter and Fan.  Sayang iyong kay Hugh :( pero keribels lang.

Peter Dinklage

Fan Bingbing

Hugh Jackman
The screening started 930 buti may tindang hotdog nagkalaman sikmura ko.

Kuala Lumpur & Genting, Malaysia (2013)

Is Malaysia truly Asia? Please answer. Hehehehe.

Thanks to my company's generous client, been here several times.  My first one day trip happened 2005, loss ang trip na iyon.  As in dumaan lang ako then alis na!

Then, year 2012, was involved in a shared service project and the hub's in Kuala Lumpur.

Pangunahan ko na, kahit na nakailang ulit na ako sa KL, di ko pa rin nalibot ang buong place and experienced all the things it could offer.  Pasundot-sundot lang sa bawat punta.  Of course, my objective is to work hindi naman lumamyerda hehe.

Pleasant experience if I will summarize KL - I consider this as Asia's melting pot where all cultures are integrated and interdependent with each other.  I stayed most of the time in The Gardens Hotel located in MidValley.

The twins (Petronas) ang concern ko talaga the second time I visited.  Great view especially during night time.

On my 3rd trip (mabigat itong punta kong ito dahil alam kong super stress ang nagihintay sa akin), visited the Batu Cave - a Hindu temple #alamna!

Going to Genting will take 3 - 4 hours from KL.  There's a bus going there kalimutan ko na how much pero you need to be mindful of the schedule.

4th trip - I checked out several places for photo-op lang.

My 5th trip - one day office lang then balik Manila din agad.  The next trip, went to Bukit Bintang (kebs lang din).

If ever na magkaroon ulit ng chance to go to molga 14, definitely will make the most out of it.

Kingston, Jamaica (2008)

I have been here twice - capital of "watagwan' Jamaica.  I will not consider this as a travel per se dahil ang objective ng pagpunta ko dito eh to apply for a US Visa.  Yehes ganun ka-complicated kapag naninirahan ka sa isla, walang mga consular services.

My first visit was 2007 - DENIED!  Hahaha kaloka! Confident pa naman ako na ma-aapprove. Actuallars, mas nag-ikot ako nung 2007 kaysa sa 2008.  Nung 2008 - nagstay lang ako dun sa inn the whole day #alamna!

Once na may visa ka na, book plane (in our case, Cayman Airways) an hour or less flight from Grand Cayman to Kingston.

Medyo scary sa Kingston (wow parang di laki sa Tondo).  I am not being a racist here ha - scary in a sense na nakakaintimidate kasi parang laging may away or aawayin ka kapag nagsalita and imagine mo ang height nila and overall physique.  I arrived around 8pm - just like in other parts of the world, kailangan medyo madiskarte ka at hindi tatanga tanga kundi #lagot ka!

Safe naman nakarating sa inn and then doon na ako walang labasan until kinabukasan.

Big day has arrived, "I don't feel any pressure right now" and a big failure, oh well papel.  Next year ulit parang byukon lang.  So luhaan kong binagtas ang Kingston, di ko alam kung saan ako pupunta, ang init init so I decided to visit the Bob Marley House masabi lang na may napuntahan.  Yah man! Kebs lang.

Parang kuha lang sa kanto!  Saan ka pa? Travelling in corporate attire haha!
Lakad - lakad... lakad pa at lakad pa.

China Man!" - elooowwwww China Doll ito no!  Tapos sabi nung isa, "Stop it... China Man will do kung-fu" tapos sabi ko "Haaaaiiiyaaaaaa" charot lang.

Went back to accommodation - yes lakad ulit!  Afterwards, flysung na back to Cayman.

May I remind na maraming interesting places sa Kingston or in Jamaica especially the Ocho Rios pero did not grab the opportunity e.  Sayang!

Mt. Pinatubo [Capas, Tarlac] (2014)

Another "ma-try nga" travel moment but no plans of doing it again. Hahahaha!!!  Worth it naman ang effort and everything but I guess there are a lot of places waiting to be explored.

\

The fierce Mount Pinatubo - situated in 3 provinces of Philippines, Pampanga, Zambales, and Tarlac.  I am too lazy to check in Wikipedia but me thinks this volcano erupted in 1991 around June.  Di ko sure if the eruption is connected sa earthquake na naranasan ko nung bata ako na nagresult sa pagkasira ng Benguet (remember Hyatt?).

Past is past and all is good for now, Mt. Pinatubo attracts local and foreign tourists therefore generating small income to LGU and small businesses.  Kahit papaano makabawi ng kaunti sa losses.

Only a day trip - thanks to Zaide who arranged the tour. It took an hour for the registration, tour guide, and 4x4 arrangement to be completed.

One hour din iyong ride sa 4x4 - masarap ang feeling dahil ang lamig and you can can feel the breeze.

Vroom Vroom
We reached the drop-off point 8am and now we're on our own.  It's a 5km trek - kung sanay kang maglakad or tumakbo sisiw ang trekking na ito.  Good din siya to catchup with friends about sa mga chismax.

Comfort room/washroom will be available only at the 4k mark.

Then ta-da!!! Welcome to Mt.

We drove back to Capas with the 4x4 around 12pm.

Left Capas drop-off point 2:30pm and sumaglit sa Capas Shrine - photo op ng sandali and on the way to Angeles, Pampanga mga 1 hour lang din.  Kumain ng decent food sa K's Café (nice restaurant by the way).  Form of resting na din kaya nagtagal kami sa resto, then dumaan sa LA Bakeshop to buy mini-cheesebread (yummy lalo na pag bagong labas ng oven) 180php for 30pcs.

Capas Shrine
6pm we go back to Manila and after 2 hours, hello Manila!!!

Exhibit A
Some reminders in case na balakin niyo -

  • Dala ng snacks and beverages - mahal ang tinda sa Pinatubo 100PHP for the drinks.
  • Pahid ng sunblock (see exhibit A)
  • Dala ng pantakip ng ilong at bibig for the Dusty Springfield
  • Pangcover ng kamay
  • Camera
Trip ko naman next Pangasinan...

Corregidor Island, Cavite (2013)

Another one of those Philippine postcard inspired travel, the heroic Corregidor Island.

I always thought that this is part of Bataan, but no - geographically part of the Cavite province.  Maybe the confusion was due to the historic significance of Corregidor with Bataan's Death March which happened during WWII.

Dealgrocer sells discounted vouchers, for this tour which includes lunch costed if I recall it correctly, Php 1,500.00.  Sun cruises managed the entire trip, departure time from Manila CCP Complex 9am and reached the island approximately 11-ish in the morning.  It was a quick sail across Manila Bay.
Our School Bus
Lunch first before the educational tour starts. Everything in this place had significance in the second world war.  Below are some of the photos taken -

It's expected to get bored since this was an educational tour so a little imagination on what happened in the 40s will help to appreciate the stories more.

One thing that you should not miss, Malinta Tunnel visit.  With the help of voice recordings and clips, it will bring you back to the time of Japanese occupation.  This gave me goosebumps.

Malinta Tunnel
At the end of the Malinta tour, the Philippine National Anthem was played.  I cried.

It took almost 5 hours to explore the entire island and how I look at Araw ng Kagitingan will never be the same.

It's good to notice also that a lot of Filipinos are being nostalgic and tried Corregidor. What's surprising is that there were Japanese visitors (some of them may have witnessed/experienced war) as well.  Surely, it would be a treat to look into their emotions and minds during this excursion.

I am just glad that most of us have moved on and while there's a lot of work to be done to achieve peace - I think we are on the right track.

Our fabu tour guide
Special mention to our comedienne tour guide who made the travel exciting and humorous to balance the "tragic" atmosphere of the place.

Ho Chi Minh [Saigon], Vietnam (2013)

I am proud of Manila, my city.  Kahit ano pang sabihin nila maganda ang Maynila, iyong tipong marumi at mabaho pero may character.  I have not been to Bangkok and iyong mga ibang main cities so again, biased comment ito.

Unexpectedly, my second favorite Asian city will be Saigon.  Infernes, I fell in love with the place and because of that I fell in love with Vietnam as well.  This business trip was a continuation of the 2013 Indonesia escapade.  So after the Yogyakarta adventure, I came back to Jakarta and took my flight to HCMC from there.  This was a 9-day stay.  Arrived Sunday night.

Caravelle Room
First timer, so a bit anxious kung ano ang process sa immigration and especially this is a Socialist country, baka mas mahigpit.  To my own surprise, voila!!! dali dali wala ng check check ng passport, stamp stamp lang and then exit na.

Accomodation was Caravelle Hotel, very nice hotel - weather same as Manila, humid... very humid.

Monday to Friday, all about work.  Vietnamese, like Filipinos and Indonesians are really friendly and accommodating. During those days, we visited interesting Vietnamese restaurants serving delicious and good delicacies.  And there was the SUPER DUPER BEST na French Restaurant pero later na iyan.
SH Garden's Lotus Rice

Same thing with my adventure kahit na I have a boring taste bud (ayoko ng mababangong food na feeling ko made sa bulaklak).

Below is the list of restaurants tried,
  • Baby Spoon - uhmmm don't try here.
  • Pizza Hut - best Vietnam pizza echos!
  • Cafe Terrace - not really serving Vietnam but if you want to take a break and have Italian, keribels na ito medyo pricey though.
  • SH Garden - good and wapak sa presentation
  • Wrap and Roll - puro rolls, aba malamang!
Now, there are 2 restaurants na BEST BEST BEST, one serving VN food and the other French Cuisine.

The first must-try restaurant is Cuc Gach Quan.

Rumor has it na nagdine dito ang Jolie-Pitt nung inadopt si Maddie
Then we have the French Trois Gourmands - medyo far far away na siya na kaunti from Saigon Central.

Escargot
How it goes is that you will be asked to order for appetizer and main, of course drinks also.  Typically they serve Bread and Butter, iba ibang choices ng bread. Then, appetizer - I ordered escargot or suso, first timer.

After ng starter, next is the main.

Steak
After main - they will serve you cheese, variation of cheese

Say Cheese!
I say in terms of prices, di nagkakalayo sa Manila kaya ang sarap mamili.

Suki... Pili na...
The Opera
I tried the Stone Massage, keri lang naman babae iyong nagmamasahe na hagikgik ng hagikgik.  To be honest, natatakot ako ng slight baka akala niya eh go ako sa ES, buti na lang happy girl lang siya.

Friday ang schedule ng flight ni A to Saigon, unfortunately namiss niya iyong flight.  So iyong free Opera House chorvah namin, wala na din.  He arrived past 12mn sa Saigon and then we have a whole day (1/2 + 1/2) city tour on this day.

Saigon City Hall
The tour included visits to Saigon Post Office, Jade Emperor Pagoda, Notre Dame de Saigon, Reunification Palace, and War Remnants Museum.

War Remnants Museum tour was sad and eye opener.  I always thought na bida ang US sa Vietnam War turned out hindi pala.  This is something you shouldn't miss when you go to HCMC.

Overall, head over heels ako sa Saigon and maybe next time - Hanoi naman.  Fingers crossed.

Yogyakarta, Indonesia (2013)

Nagkaroon ako ng urge to travel because of Asian History, well 6th grade pa lang ako/kami mahilig na kami sa Geography.  My elementary best buds and I, hindi kami sporty - kami ang mga geeks sa section namin.  Ang hilig naming mga non-school/extra curricular activites eh iyong mag-stay sa library, magbasa ng books about Anatomy, Planets, and Places/Geography.

Ang gagawin namin - magtatanong kami sa bawat isa ng alam mong trivia, mga tipong - give me the countries located in French Polynesia.  Hahaha!!!

Kaya nung Asian History time namin, 2nd year - naexpose kami sa mga wonders of the world and nature.  One of these many picturesque sites eh ang Borobudur.

I was really lucky with my previous work, I was given a chance to see and fulfill my dreams.  I did the Yogyakarta travel during my 2013 Jakarta visit, in this trip kasama ko si Sonny, one of my bestfriends na kasama ko sa story ko sa itaas.  Luckily, he was in Jakarta too and sakto ang weekend namin, parehong free.

Better than Cebu Pac...
Friday's my flight from Jakarta to Yogyakarta via Air Asia. Flight to YOG was an hour or so, malapit lang naman.  Son was already in the hotel (kalimutan ko na name) na near sa Borobudur, sick and feverish.

From airport, I took a cab to Malioboro - I have to admit, mahal scared kasi ako na baka pag mura maloko ako lalo na mahirap ang conversation sa Indonesia.

Party in Malioboro
Malioboro, a must visit place sa YOG - para siyang Baclaran/Divisoria na I think mas safe (and this came from someone na lumaki from Tondo). Nagpafoot massage din and nagcanvass ng tours.

Kailangang pairalin ang pagiging laking Tondo and ayun tawaran.  After checking several tours, we decided na i-avail service (tour that is) ni Aan Purnama Yoga.

Hahaha... anyway, mahaba haba iyong biyahe so buti na lang there's something to discuss.

Ok - tour day, Saturday - we planned to visit Borobudur, Prambanan Temple, Silver Store, Mt. Merapi, and Kraton.

Sunrise Viewing
Sa loob may Buddha.  Parang halimaw sa bangin.
Aga namin umalis to do trekking, iyong sunshine chorvah na may gandang effect sa Borobudur, uhmmm mali kami ng iniisip so I suggest don't do this trekking. We stayed 2 hours for this activity, then off to the actual temple.

One word to describe the Buddhist temple, magnificent.  You can't help to think na ang gagaling talaga ng mga ancient humans who built ng mga ganitong man-made sites.  So basically, Borobudur is a Buddhist temple - iyong mga carvings niya represent the story of Gautama Buddha.  Absolutely one of my greatest travel experiences.

Writings on the Wall
Next location, Prambanan (Hindu) temples.  Ang story is (if I remember it correctly), magkapatid ang nagpatayo ng both temples but fell in love with different beliefs.  Prambanan Temple tells a story of a guy/prince who fell in love with a girl/princess and promised to build 1000 temples, mga ganung ek-ek.

Prambanan

One thing to note that the 3 main Hindu Gods, they have their own temples.

Kraton
A bit unfortunate dahil inulan kami during our stay in Pramabanan pero again, worth it na worth it.

It's compulsory to visit the silver store kahit na kebs ako.  Next destination - Merapi mountain.

Then we go back to Malioboro and had a quick stop at Kraton, nothing extraordinary dahil closed, so facade na lang ang picture.

On our way back to JKT, we took Garuda flight.

Ktnxbye!
