Boracay, Aklan (2012)

Boracay... Philippines finest.  It was October when we scheduled our trip to Bora.  Yes, I admit that I am skeptical about the island - doubtful if it will live up to my expectations as I have experienced the clear waters and fine sandy beaches of Cayman Islands.

Cebupac is the best airline when it comes to delay. The boarding was on time but we have waited for more than 3 hours inside the plane due to traffic congestion.  We are flying to Kalibo and then road trip to Caticlan.  We have made the van reservation prior the travel date so easier for us. The drive took more than an hour and then from Jetty port you need to pay taxes, since there were no bankas available, we opted for a boat.  I tell you we thought the 15 minute sail was a joke, but it's true we did not realize that it sailed already.  When it stopped, someone shouted - Boracay!!!  Amazing!!!  One tricycle ride going to our destination around 20 - 30 minutes.

We stayed at Sunwoo Beach Hotel, it was ok especially if you are on a budget.  Close to the beach and located in Station 2 where they say you could find the "in" crowd.  I guess that's true though.  We arrived evening so there's nothing much to see but to wander around.  October is off peak, less tourists/visitors, now let's do some rundown of the best (no worse) things in Bora.

Ahhh Boracay!
On our first day, we woke up very early to feel the breeze and see the beauty of the sea.  I guess when they say that this island tops the best beaches in the world, they were not kidding.  I fell in love with it - the long and calm stretch of the sea combined with magnificent view of the bankas - I always thought it was hyped but no no no.

I loved it!!!

Real Coffee
Well don't get me wrong, Cayman and Caribbean seas are pretty too but I guess it's different when something this beautiful is located in your country.

We tried the two best sellers in Bora, Real Coffee and Jonas Fruit Milshake.  Maybe it's just me and my odd taste but I did not find extraordinary about their menus.  I guess those who travel frequently to this place made it a "must try".  Still, for first timers - I suggest to try these two restaurants, no harm but lower your expectations.

Food choices are very very reasonable plus they have happy hours, I cannot believe the drinks would cost as low as 60PHP not to mention the perfect view from a distance.  Sun sets while sipping mojito - HEAVEN!!! even for someone like me who doesn't drink.

The place offers several seafood buffet outlets again, very reasonable.  For dinner, I had grilled lobster.  YUM!!!

Cheers!
There's not much of a difference between the first and second day.  The usual bumming and as much as I didn't like it to end, I had no choice - reality has started to sink in.

Now here comes the ugly part.

Going back to Manila (early morning) was a challenge since our flight was cancelled from 6am to 1pm and we need to find ways to spend the hours in Kalibo.  One of the things you can do to waste the hours is to have a mani & pedi, seriously.

This travel will always be close to heart, definitely not the last time and I hope, this is just the first of the many returns to Boracay.
