I always thought this will be such a snoozefest but first scene already gripped me.
The story is related to WWII specifically Germany but not a typical war film. It lets us peek unto the lives of German civilians particularly on a young courageous girl Liesel during this dark period.
Geoffrey Rush, who is another favorite actor of mine and Emily Watson, another great actress - both played as the adoptive parents of Liesel. Delivered the scenes effortlessly.
A great film even with the lack of twists. Maybe the reason why I loved this film is because it showcased our best trait, our humanity and morbid as it is - I am always fascinated by Death.
This is based on a beloved book with the same title.
