Baron Bror Blixen: You're not going to fall in love with me are you?
Karen Blixen: Not with someone who's always leaving.
The Meryl Streep movie marathon goes on as I am so excited to watch her expected Oscar nominated performance in August: Osage County. Out of Africa was her 6th nominated AMPAS performance not only because of her acting but also the accent.
This Best Picture film was directed by Oscar winner Sydney Pollack and set in (actual) Kenya. Based on a true romantic story (1910s - 1920s), the film tells the struggle of a woman to find herself in a new society and someone to love her the way she would want to.
Poignant, long, and more on dialogue but since this was shot outside the studio, you will be amazed on the ala-National Geographic scenes of the movie reminds me of Brokeback Mountain.
Not for everyone but if you are a fan of Meryl's work, you should watch this as she has brought another character to big screen.
Winner of 7 Academy Awards.
For those who know me, I was born to have a lazy and boring taste buds.
My second time here in Mozu, (located 31st and 2nd Taguig) and 2nd time also ordering their Lechon Laing. The combination of lechon kawali and laing bring a contrasting flavor that will make you go for an extra rice.
Only suggestion is to have the dish be presented better.
Did I mention the attendants (guys of course!) are eye-candy also. Reminds me of Kalentong-Kamuning boys.
I don't understand why Filipinos are getting critical on 2013's MMFF. This is MMFF for goodness sake, we all know that 80% of these films are worthless crappy movies (at least for me) but somehow successful in giving comedic or entertainment relief during the Christmas season to masses.
I think it was never part of MMFF's mission or vision to give quality films, that's the main reason why you have Cinemalaya that provides an Oscar worthy film so let's not waste our energy demanding explanation from producers.
For this year, we have watched 3 out of 8 flicks.
Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy - love your own as they say. Main reason we watched this film is of course Vice Ganda. Quality - meh!
Kimmy Dora: Ang Kiyemeng Prequel - While it did not match its predecessors, I think Chris Martinez has made an effort to have it presentable to audiences. However, pop culture humor is not a Filipino thing, we are so engrossed of toilet humor. Quality - below average.
Boy Golden - Unexpectedly, this was one I would say is worthy of your money. I just cannot get over with the question, how many grams of foundation were slapped on Estregan's face. Quality - average.
Somewhere in my mind, I have longed to see an above average or excellent film being part of this festival with the likes of Aishite Masu, Crying Ladies, Baler, Muro Ami, Jose Rizal, Imortal, Karnal, Ganito Kami Noon Paano Kayo Ngayon, and Himala.
Who knows? Maybe next year...
You always see this in a reunion film where a character dreads to go into this kind of gathering, oftentimes - a high school reunion. I think that was me last night, not that I don't enjoy bonding time, in fact I usually initiate this type of activity with of course my personal cliques.
But I cannot put into words what I have felt at a mini high school reunion which happened last night.
I felt disconnected and kept analyzing why I am feeling this way.
Have I gone too proud of my status?
Have I outgrown them and the stories they are sharing?
Am I envious of them because they have kids?
Or may be at this stage, I prefer intimate get together?
Maybe I am not the center of attention?
Has life become too boring for me and I have got nothing to talk about?
Probably this is due to lack of sleep and rest?
Possible also I did not like the food or venue?
Maybe I am just being old - grumpy and snob?
A stranger treatment perhaps?
I just cannot simply identify. An unusual way since I am always in touch with my emotions. Whatever it was, I hope it's an isolated case - nothing more than that.
Wait... could it be that I will always be somewhere on the outside?
While I was walking home, it got me thinking that one of the saddest experiences in life is to witness in your own eyes that your friendship or relationship with other people whom you are closest with grew apart.
The spontaneity and comfort are replaced by awkwardness and distance. Then you realized, there's nothing to talk about, there's no more common ground - you feel obliged to talk just to keep it interesting or worse, avoid the fact that there's nothing there... even the nostalgia.
I always thought before that it should be easier to maintain a nonsexual relationship as you become more mature. But no... no... no... even maturity cannot prevent this, it is inevitable a cold truth of life.
It is funny that part of my year-end reflection is not only to look back and give gratitude. But also, to look back and see who decided to let go of us.
My first time here, located in Xavierville, Loyola Heights, Quezon City. Ordered Banana and Cookies & Cream milkshake but to my own surprise, I got a "blizzard/ice cream" type of shake, not my thing. You can also personalize it by sprinkling confections. Personally, taste is average and not an award winning as what they claim to be. Prices are reasonable though.
Will be back to try other flavors and those non-milkshake foodies.
My first movie of 2014 which is based on a novel with the same title, The Nanny Diaries. I know... I know... the film is not timely, but hey - it is a feel good film which will bring positive vibes in the new year which is something we all need.
It was top billed by my favorite Scarlett Johannson and the fabulous Laura Linney. Alicia Keys who took some break from singing and the scrumptious Chris Evans supported the film.
Don't expect any heavy materials on the film but rest assured it will warm your hearts. Definitely recommended for parents who are having some challenges in giving support and attention to their kids.
And of course a slight wake up call on giving right treatment to our wonderful nannies.
